Add the Dinner Plate
Place the dinner plate in the centre of the placemat or tablecloth. Ensure that the plate is centred and there's enough space around it for the other elements.
Fold the Napkin
To set the table for a dinner party, you'll need to fold the napkin into a rectangle and place it on top of the dinner plate. The napkin should be folded in half lengthwise.
Place the Side Plate
Now it's time to place your side plate. Place it on top of the napkin. The side plate should be used for bread or an appetiser; if you're serving soup, use a bowl instead of a plate.
Add the Cutlery
Place the fork on the left side of the side plate, with its tines facing up. Place the knife on the right side of your dinner plate, with its blade facing towards you. It should be closest to you and directly opposite from where your other utensils are placed (i.e., if there's a spoon on your right side, then put your knife there).
